Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. Shelby County Criminal History does not keep a separate log or stored copy of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email may be retained long enough to review and answer it. Messages remain within the operating team unless disclosure is required by a valid legal duty.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the server may receive routine technical details about that visit:

- The referring site, when one is supplied

- Time spent on particular pages

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Shelby County Criminal History does not store, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its reference material identifies records held by the Shelby County Sheriff, Iowa District Court, Iowa Department of Public Safety Division of Criminal Investigation, and Iowa Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not compiled into third-party criminal profiles or consumer reports, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Outside companies power the search boxes. Information submitted in a tool is governed by that provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its own retention and disclosure practices, so review those terms before running a search.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Shelby County Sheriff, Iowa court and agency websites, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy rules control. Those rules should be read before personal information is shared.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and tailor advertisements. Their tracking is not operated by Shelby County Criminal History.

Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be received by:

Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect a minor's personal information. A verified request concerning data supplied by someone under 18 will be reviewed for deletion.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary with a visitor's location and applicable law. Iowa Code chapter 22 governs access to records held by Iowa public bodies, while chapter 692 governs criminal-history data and a record subject's access and challenge rights. Those public-record laws do not turn this private site into a government custodian. A visitor may still:
- Request access to personal data held by the site
- Ask that inaccurate personal data be corrected
- Object to certain processing where applicable law allows it
- Request deletion where retention is not legally required
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as site practices or legal requirements change. A replacement version becomes available here with its new effective date.
